The father of Hayden Panettiere has been arrested for beating his wife.


Alan Panettiere, a fire department lieutenant, is alleged to have assaulted his former soap star wife Lesley. The Heroes star�s father was arrested on a felony count of domestic violence in the early hours of Monday morning.

Sgt. Scott Wolf told People: "There was a domestic argument between the mother and father. He got upset and struck the mother in the face one or two times on the left hand cheek which caused some bruising. From what I'm told, he hit her with a closed fist.


"The mother called constabulary shortly in front 3 a.m., and Mr. Panettiere was taken into custody. He's been cooperative. Earlier, they were at a party and the husband apparently felt disrespected by his wife."


TMZ reports that Alan is currently being held on $50,000 (�25,000) bail.

Usher set for No. 1 album despite sales plunge

LOS ANGELES (Billboard) - R&B star Usher's new album will easily claim the No. 1 spot on the U.S. pop chart next Wednesday, but its sales will be about one-third those of his previous chart-topper, according to preliminary data.


"Here I Stand" sold about 146,000 copies during its first day of release Tuesday, according to a selection of leading retailers who report their data to tracking firm Nielsen SoundScan. Billboard estimates the nine merchants, which include Best Buy, Borders and iTunes, account for about 80% of all U.S. album sales.


The first-day figure for Usher is near the 154,000 that Mariah Carey's "E=MC2" began with in April. She finished the week with 463,000, though that number was amplified by an aggressive promotional campaign that included stops on "Oprah Winfrey" and "American Idol."


Usher's debut might be more in line with that of Jack Johnson's "Sleep Through the Static" earlier this year. It sold 121,000 copies on its first day and finished the week with 375,000.


Usher's last album, 2004's "Confessions," debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 1.1 million copies and spent nine weeks at the top. With U.S. sales to date of 9.5 million, "Confessions" is the biggest release by a male solo singer since Garth Brooks' 1991 album "Ropin' the Wind," which has shifted 9.6 million.


The current chart-topper is Mississippi rock band 3 Doors Down's self-titled fourth album, which sold about 154,000 copies during its first week.

Masseuse called Olsen on finding Ledger's body

The masseuse who found Heath Ledger's body on Tuesday twice rang the actress Mary-Kate Olsen, a friend of the Australian actor, before calling the emergency number 911, it has been reported.
The New York Times online, quoting police officials, said the masseuse Diana Wolozin told Olsen that Ledger was unconscious.Olsen said she would call some private security people she knew in New York, and hung up.
The Times said Wolozin again shook Ledger, called Olsen a second time, and said she believed the situation was grave and would call 911.
Wolozin called 911 at 3.26pm local time and reported that Ledger was not breathing.
The 911 call was made less than 15 minutes after Wolozin first saw Ledger in bed and only a few moments after the first call to Olsen.
The 911 operator urged Wolozin to try to revive Ledger, but she was unsuccessful.
Emergency medical workers arrived at 3.33pm, at the same time a private security guard called by Olsen arrived.
